This was a sermon delivered by Pastor Kimberly Quinn Johnson. She said not all resistance is the same and we must be clear what we are resisting. We resist the unfamiliar, we resist the uncomfortable, We resist change. For some, our surrounding culture was familiar and comfortable, but now they look foreign and challenging.
To overcome resistance, takes love. Love paired with power is justice, she said. Love is the art of nurturing our interdependence. Love is the rejection of fear. Love creates space for others.
So how do we know what resistance is worth engaging in? Resistance is courage born from Love.
And, finally, she made the point that rejoicing opens us up to healing. It is hope. Sing out, even if you aren't very good at it. Once we blend in, all the voices together sound great and give us hope.
